HEART HEALTHY

Updated: Aug 17, 2022

Every January, we make our New Year’s resolutions and for many of us, we want to either lose weight, get healthier or both. Then comes February, the month of love, valentine’s day and the American Heart Month! Our attention is drawn to the importance of promoting heart health. Heart attacks and strokes are on the decline thanks to the dedicated efforts of many health care professionals, organizations, and scientists on the frontlines of cardiovascular research and health education. Yet, while progress is being made, cardiovascular diseases still account for the largest number of deaths each year in the US (one death every 40 seconds) and impose an enormous emotional, physical, and economic burden on individuals, families, and our communities.

The INA team is focusing on the “Great 8,” a project designed to improve health communications around preventing heart disease and stroke. It illustrates the simple changes that can be made to improve your heart health and decrease your risk of disease and death.

Another factor that improves heart health is positive relationships at home, work, or in your community. According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), we’re more successful at meeting our health goals when we join forces with others. So, share the love, give a hug and start improving your heart health today.
